Modern Day Satire’s freshman release ASTRUM MOS VEHO VOS DOMUM is a innovative and creative arrival from a young Iowa band. My first exposure to this band actually goes back a few years to Northview Middle School. At that time, current MDS lead singer Ryan Lombard was playing in a band made up of 3 of my percussion students. Later naming themselves “For now and Forever” they took Northview by storm with their high energy and pure talent during a Variety show. A month later “For now and Forever” performed at Ankeny High School’s anneal Battle of the Bands 2009. “For now and Forever” finished 3rd behind a band I thought had pure genius, Modern Day Satire. (BTW, the 1st place band should’ve been 3rd behind these other two).

Within a month “For now and Forever” split up because the drummer was moving and the other guitar player’s loyalty laid to the drummer and not the band or music. I was very disappointed by this because I knew these guys could have been great. But this story has a hidden point and past: FATE. Years earlier MDS songwriter Kenneth Hoover and Ryan were childhood friends and neighbors. But Kenneth ended up moving across town and they went their separate paths which included both perusing music. FATE, even through the dissolving of one band, brought these two back together.

This album, ASTRUM MOS VEHO VOS DOMUM is an album of the struggle with accepting life circumstance as chance or FATE. The opening songs are not intended to start this story but preview where MDS is taking you. The rejection of FATE and belief that we are in control of our own destiny (Good Morning) is confronted by doubts of these beliefs (Losing Sleep; Passerby). FATE is no longer something rejected (Eyes Open) but found with peace and contentment (Street Lights; Dancing Marionettes).

Modern Day Satire’s freshman album ASTRUM MOS VEHO VOS DOMUM is a mature thought lyrically and musically for these teens who will not forget this experience soon. Modern Day Satire consists of Kenneth Hoover, Ryan Lombard, Carl Bisenius, and Jay Fieser.

ASTRUM MOS VEHO VOS DOMUM will be released this Friday (December 18) at a CD release concert at the Vaudeville Mews in Des Moines, IA. Doors open at 4:30, concert begins at 5:00 and is $5. They will be appearing with The Atudes, Goodbye Kai, and The Raspberry Shibbs.
