After about 5 years of not owning my own drumset because of space in our condo and just having access to a decent one at church, I own a Taye StudioBirch drumset. The color is a natural to black burst and I’m telling she is a beauty. Not only does she look good, the sound is A-MAZING!! Maybe it’s because I have played on low quality drums for most my life but this thing rumbles. I am still trying to get my bass drum to thump and my need to switch from the Dynation batter head it came with to my favorite, Evans EMAD Batter head.
So when I am going to use this new drumset? Great question! This isn’t too widely known, but I have just been picked up by a highly known band in the Christian ranks, but maybe you have heard of them….Casting Crowns!
Ok…just kidding (maybe one day)! HAHA! But I am in the process of joining a band from the Des Moines area and have another idea for starting another band from church. So my goal is to be gigging within a year. I absolutely love leading people in worship so we will where this goes.
Anyway for pics of the new drums, click here.

Gorgeous set!
I watched this really great video from Bob Gatzen on YouTube about tuning your bass drum. I followed his direction and the kick on our set at church now BOOMS (Prairie Ridge – I play with Kasey and Adam there)! I love the sound. Before I tightened up to much. This dude teaches to barely tightens it to LPP (lowest possible pitch), and it makes a big difference. I like that thick boom. I also purchased a new resonate (outer) head with a muffling ring around the hole like he mentions. I have never purchased an resonate head for the bass before, but it actually made a huge difference. I was quite surprised. If you want to keep that Tayo logo, they sell kits to cut a hole and line it with a muffler. Anyway, have fun with the new set!

He does video’s for all the drums. They’re all really good.
