Thursday afternoon, one our senior’s past away after an accident at work. Here is the email from our Pastor on the situation:
Yesterday we lost one of our most saintly members Cliff Mast. Cliff died in a work-related accident late yesterday afternoon. His three daughters Debbie, Carol and Cindy are in the area making arrangements for the funeral service which will undoubtedly be early next week. Be in prayer for them as they deal with the sudden loss of their father. As many of you know, Cliff’s wife Lorana passed away a few years ago from cancer.
A personal word about Cliff. Those of us who knew Cliff know why he could be described as one of our most saintly members. A dozen years ago he suffered a major stroke. The complications of that stroke were intensified by something called Parkinson’s Plus. Those two things combined made it difficult for Cliff to get around and to communicate fluidly the things that were on his heart. Nevertheless, Cliff maintained a constant spirit of joy, gratitude and humility. No one, and I mean no one can remember a discouraging word coming from Cliff’s mouth while here at SBC. Arlan Thorson, who got with Cliff every week, often described him as the most Christlike person he’d ever known. His testimony will be missed. May it continue to speak to us for a long time to come until we meet him in glory.
If we receive information regarding visitation and the memorial service we will pass it along later today.
In Christ,
Pastor Nemmers
I remember the first time I met Cliff. I was doing my internship and we were leading a youth group service activity. His house was the first house that we did work at. His wife Lorena, was in the final stages of cancer but what a testimony she was. Even weak from chemo she was able to serve the kids that were there with cookies and drinks and talked with the kids as though nothing was wrong. It was just a few months later that she died.
Cliff though stood out to me. He was a shorter man but really did everything he could to serve and take care of his wife. What a testimony that was to me because a week after this trip, was going to be getting married.
Since then Cliff has been at church I think every Sunday. I don’t remember a Sunday he wasn’t there. I could always find him in the back of the auditorium greet people and shaking people’s hands. He is a part of what makes our church feel warm when you walk in. He is going to be missed…
The visitation for Cliff Mast will be Saylorville Baptist Church Tuesday, March 24th from 4:00-8:00pm. The funeral service will also be here at the church on Wednesday at 11:00am.
Continue to lift up the Cliff Mast family during this difficult time.

I work at a sister plant to the one Cliff worked. When I was sent over to do something at his jobsite, I would always bring Cliff a Breakfast pizza slice, as I did Wednesday. Any time you looked at this man at work…..he had a smile
Many of us will miss him.
I work at the Indianola Heartland Coop. I wasn’t real close to Cliff but I have met him through Heartland quite a bit. I was so sad when I heard the news that Cliff had passed away. I know what his family is feeling cause I lost my dad in 2003. Just know that he is in a great place and with the ones that he loves. I feel terrible that this happed and hope you remember the great times you shared with Cliff.
